The division for predisposal management of spent nuclear fuel addresses various technologies aimed at ensuring the safe and efficient management of spent nuclear fuel until its final disposal. Typically, nuclear fuel discharged from reactors is stored for a certain period in a wet environment before being transferred to temporary on-site dry storage facilities or off-site interim storage facilities. Additionally, in some countries, reprocessing technologies are employed to extract reusable materials from spent nuclear fuel for commercial purposes. The predisposal management division seeks to provide a forum for technology development and discussion to manage spent nuclear fuel safely and efficiently through industry-academia-research cooperation to minimize potential risks to the environment and human health. Therefore, the predisposal management division aims to cover various technological fields, including:

  • Studies on Long-Term Integrity of Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Studies on Handling and Retrievability of Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Studies on Safety Evaluation of Wet and Dry Storage System for Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Reprocessing and Volume Reduction Technologies for Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Studies on Monitoring and Maintenance of Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Systems
  • Studies on Degradation Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Systems
  • Studies on Transportation System and Transport Risk Analysis of Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Studies on Characterization Verification and Safety Information of Spent Nuclear Fuel
  • Other Studies on Spent Nuclear Fuel or Storage Systems
