Nuclear power has recently regained attention as a vital component for energy security and carbon neutrality. Safe management of the spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste resulting from power plant operations is crucial for ensuring the sustainability of nuclear power. To this end, the nuclear industry must make efforts towards building public confidence in nuclear power as an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and secure energy source. It must also effectively communicate with the public regarding its plans for the treatment and disposal of spent nuclear fuel, while ensuring that nuclear facilities are decommissioned in a way that enhances a sense of safety among the surrounding local residents and maintaining the environmental integrity of the land. The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Policy, Safety Regulation, and Non-Proliferation Division covers a broad range of related policy issues. Some of these issues are spent nuclear fuel management, radioactive waste treatment, storage and disposal, safety and non-proliferation regulations, social acceptance, research and development, and workforce development. To facilitate scholarly discussions and information exchanges among the society members, the division organizes conferences and workshops to broaden the spectrum of scholarly activities undertaken by the members.
